I specialise in the conservation of easel paintings, with additional experience in historic frames and three-dimensional decorative objects.
My services include condition assessment, written condition reports, treatment proposals, interventive conservation, documentation, and preventive conservation advice relating to display, framing, handling, storage, and environment.
If an object falls outside my scope, I will advise on appropriate referral.

Pricing is based on time, technical complexity, and the specific requirements of each object.
An initial consultation is offered without charge to discuss the object and its general condition. No formal documentation is provided at this stage.
Following assessment, clients receive a written treatment proposal and estimate before any treatment is undertaken. Formal condition reports and full documentation are provided once treatment is agreed, or where a separate condition report service is commissioned.
No work proceeds without prior agreement.

I undertake conservation treatment focused on stabilisation, cleaning, structural repair, and reintegration where appropriate. All treatments are guided by minimal intervention, material compatibility, and long-term stability.
Extensive aesthetic reconstruction or speculative restoration is not undertaken where it would compromise material or historical integrity.
-
All treatment proposals are based on close examination, testing, and documentation. Decisions consider the object’s materials, condition, history, use, and ethical implications.
No interventive treatment is undertaken without prior assessment and agreement.
-
Yes. Following initial examination, clients receive a written condition report together with a treatment proposal outlining recommended options, risks, and estimated costs.
Once a treatment programme is agreed and completed, a full treatment report is provided. This includes a record of materials, methods, and actions undertaken, suitable for the client, institution, insurer, or future custodians of the object.
-
Timeframes vary depending on the object, condition, and treatment complexity. Some treatments may take weeks or months. An estimated timescale is provided after assessment.
-
Initial guidance can often be given from photographs, but accurate quotations usually require in-person examination. Many condition issues cannot be assessed reliably from images alone.
-
Yes. All client information and object documentation are treated as confidential unless agreed otherwise.
-
No. I am not licensed as an appraisal service and I do not provide valuations or opinions on the financial value of objects. My role is strictly limited to conservation assessment and treatment, and I maintain no interest in the market value of works under my care.
Where appropriate, referrals to independent appraisers or researchers can be made.
